Trump: An Answer to Prayers?

“And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Evangelist Franklin Graham said that prayer — and God’s answer to it — helped Donald Trump and Mike Pence pull off “the biggest political upset of our lifetime.”

Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, said he has traveled across the United States this year, holding prayer meetings at each state capitol. “I could sense going across the country that God was going to do something this year,” Graham told The Washington Post. “And I believe that at this election, God showed up.”

On Thursday, a day after Trump was elected to become the nation’s 45th president, Graham said God had answered their prayers.

Teaching God’s Prosperity and Abundance

I believe, from 38 years of ministry, that ministry is contextual. It depends on the context you’re in. So if I’m ministering in a context of those who are poor and struggling in life, I’m going to teach them of God’s abundance, I’m going to teach them of God’s prosperity in their life, and I’m going to teach them how to discipline their lives and believe God for a better quality of life. This was a part of the promise.

Seven Magazine: If Black People Are To Be Free

A study by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University found that between half a million and a million jobs could be created if higher-income Black households spent only $1 of every $10 at Black-owned stores and other enterprises.

According to the Census Bureau, African-Americans are 13.2 percent of the population of the United States, which comes to about 42 million people. Research by the Economic Policy Institute found that 51.3 percent of young Black high school graduates are underemployed. Yet, a recent report by Nielsen and Essence estimates that Black buying power will reach $1.3 trillion in the next few years. If we were talking about countries, that would be the 16th biggest economy in the world.

According to a New York Times article about Maggie Anderson, the author of Our Black Year, a study by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University found that between half a million and a million jobs could be created if higher-income Black households spent only $1 of every $10 at Black-owned stores and other enterprises. Yet only a tiny fraction of Black buying power is spent at Black-owned businesses.

Don’t just say that Black unemployment is four times that of Whites. Say that Black businesses only get 2 percent of the $1 trillion of Black buying power, and then say that Black businesses are the greatest private employer of Black people.

Is Trump God’s President?

Exit polls show white evangelical voters voted in high numbers for Donald Trump, 81-16 percent. That’s the most they have voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 2004, when they overwhelmingly chose President George W. Bush by a margin of 78-21 percent.

On Election Day November 8, 2016, FiveThirtyEight‘s Nate Silver on ABC’s Good Morning America said that Hillary Clinton had a 79 percent chance of becoming the President. People called Silver crazy when in March 2008, he had forecast that Senator Obama would beat Senator John McCain. According to The New York Times:

[Late in 2007], Mr. Silver, an Obama supporter, became frustrated with how primary poll results were being reported, and how sloppy polls and rigorous polls were given the same attention.

“What you heard on television was, Hillary was inevitable, she’s up 20 points,” he said. “She’s up 20 points because people had heard of her. They hadn’t heard of Obama.”

Nate Silver became very successful applying a rigorous scientific methodology to polling data.

We are a group of young adults who install, maintain, and promote the Red Hook Initiative Wifi network. Our main aim is to do outreach within the community, create partnerships with businesses and non-profit organizations relating to the network, identify possible installation sites to place routers and antennas on. We are hoping to create a safe, digital environment that’s beneficial to the community while maintaining digital infrastructure and justice. We are also available for hire for home network problems and computer fixes.

On October 6, 2016, an unprecedented $750 million plan to launch an ultra-fast internet service in Westchester County’s four largest cities (Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers) was unveiled as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects since opening the Tappan Zee Bridge and Metro-North railroad.

“What we’re learning is that digital infrastructure can be every bit as important (as roads and bridges),” New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson said. “As we come to rely on high-speed access to information – whether we are business, whether we are medical providers or whether we are residents – that kind of high-speed access is not going to be a luxury, it is going to be a requirement.”

Underrepresented groups need to participate in this plan.
